SGD$14,400 Private Hospital Bill For Surgical Biopsy For Lump In Breast.

Diagnosis: 

Lump in Breast, Surgical Biopsy. Concluded as Benign.

Description:

Patient Age 35 Female felt a few unusual lumps on one of her breast. She consulted a GP and was advised to do a Surgical Biopsy to be sure if those lumps were non cancerous (benign) or cancerous (malignant).

Had a discussion with client on the approach.

In-forced Hospital & Surgical Plan: 

1. MyShield Plan 1 & MyHealth Plus Option C (Private Hospital plan full coverage).
2. Employee Benefits from company

As client is stressful over the malignancy of the lumps. It makes better sense to have it concluded soon with a Surgical Biopsy.

Recommendation:

1. Source for a best private specialist.
2. Immediately arrange for a consultation appointment. (covered under Pre-Hospitalisation)
3. Arrange for the Day Surgery in the specialist’s preferred hospital. Mount Elizabeth Orchard was the one. 
4. Surgery was planned for within a week. 
5. Biopsy result conclusive as benign soon after.

Why did we not use client’s employee’s benefit. 

1. Personal H&S plan has eLOG to waive the deposit thus no cash upfront. 
2. Doesn’t affect her premium even after claim. 
3. Hassle free claim processes.
4. I can administer the claim and manage for her ensuring she keeps a copy of her medical documents in future if she requires additional policy enhancements in future. 

All these were concluded within a week. The approach taken had shorten her mental and emotional stress with peace of mind over surgical bill. Furthermore, she gets to choose which specialist to perform the procedure on her.

Tips: If your policy doesn’t increase your premium upon a claim. the most convenient approach is always to claim under your personal insurance first and if you want to reimbursement from your employee benefits later. some insurer will might offer you some vouchers when you do this.

Tips: For such procedures patient might need to wait up to a 6 weeks in restructured hospital. Therefore, always opt for private hospital plans if financially or medically possible.
